An awesome (and unexpected to my cynical mind) development...

DAMN! Go CRE! That letter hits all the pertinent points and hopefully will jerk a knot in the DEAs tail.

Several chinks in DEAs armor have been exposed over the last few years with regard to the marjuana legalization movement and so one can only hope that this portends a more rational approach to controlled substances.

Did you know that if you admit to ever having used an illegal substance you cannot get a job in the DEA? (Not that I would want to but...) They are thus predisposed to being true believers that perceive 'drug users' as being 'other', and therefore just as likely to be swayed by reason as were the Spanish inquisitors or Joseph McCarthy (which is to say, not very).

With continued public support and some level-headedness in government dare we hope for an end to the pharmacratic inquisition?

EDIT: I look forward to the day when someone asks the DEA (preferably at a congressional hearing) "Have you no decency?"

IF we ban kratom it will go away. To prison. Just like all the other rapists, father stabbers, Oedipial mother-lovers, DMT cooks, mescaline munchers and pawnbroker murderers on the cell blocks.

The real question now is how should we petition the FDA to keep it legal? The DEA has had its say; now the ball is in the FDA's court

I believe the fda can only regulate it and request agency's like customs steal/destroy shipments ?

I dont think for a second that the dea is done with kratom, their just proceeding with caution.

i would be very interested in seeing the history of substances that the dea has 'emergency scheduled' and the outcomes of each case.  The only one im aware of that their was much of a push back on was MDMA in the 1980's .  They actualy took them to court with tons of evidence in favor of citizens and yet lost .

Meh. Who needs kratom (other than opiate addicts and chronic pain patients) when you've got this:

Keep calm and just ISAM it on.

Yeah, letter from US Senators this time! Orin Hatch was the lead signatory. I didn't realize, but apparently he is a big advocate for the herbal supplement industry.

Now its getting kratom to stay off the scheduling list. It's all up to research now. Still, it has a potential of abuse, I wonder when humans can respect an entheogen.

Edit: Also, Kratom shouldn't fall into the hands of bug pharma
Edit 2: leaving the typo; yeah they're a pest
