Hey there everybody,
I'm a long-time lurker finally getting around to making an account here. This is a fantastic community that I've learned a lot from, and figured it's about time I contribute.
Here are some pictures of my garden thus far - it's small and quaint (and pretty sad in some spots) but it's growing! I've been moving around for many years, which isn't ideal for growing things, and so now that I'm more settled I'm playing catch up!
Anyways, without further ado (please ignore the funky stuff on the wall - this is in an old closet in a farmhouse):
The first picture is of some rustica seedlings I planted roughly 2-3 weeks ago. I exposed them to a little too much light the other day and lost a few, so now I've got them under some shade. I'm wondering when I should transplant them?
The next two pictures of bridgesii seedlings I planted at the same time. They are doing really well, but when I checked on them today some of them had flopped over and weren't looking too good. I put them in a bit more shade and gave them a solid misting for good measure - how long should I keep them moist before letting them adapt to a drier, hotter climate?
Next up is my Acacia Confusa. I planted it last summer and it wasn't doing so hot for a long time, but now that I have more time to care for it it's been doing fantastic, lots of healthy new growth! You can see in the background a PC pachanoi I picked up last summer. It's healthy and doing great, but unremarkable so I didn't include a close up of it.
The following pictures are of some pachanoi (I believe PC, but I'm not very good at IDing). Most of what you see was growth that occurred over last summer, and there's already been about an inch or so of new growth since taking them out of hibernation a few weeks ago. Once the temp warms up a bit here I'll be putting them outside and likely transplanting each pup into a new pot. (I was wondering why the growth is so skinny looking and I'm assuming it's because they need more space)
And lastly is my incredibly sad bridgesii. I acquired this little guy years ago, and it's been my travel companion around the US ever since. Cars and tents aren't the best place for a cactus to thrive, of course, and so it suffered as a result. I honestly thought it had rotted and was a goner, but repotted it anyways last summer and it's had a ton of new growth! I know it needs new soil, for starters, but I'm wondering if I should just take a cutting from the healthy growth and toss the rest? The bottom half is kinda softish to the touch, and the new growth looks like it's etiolating.
And that's about it! I've got some Star Jasmine, Voacanga Africana, and Nicotiana tobacum seeds I plan on sewing this weekend. I may plant some Datura (inoxia and stramonium) as well, which is easy to grow and I've done with success.
Other than this, I'm on the prowl for trich cuttings, salvia cuttings, hops, mimosa hostilis, and iboga seeds.
