9 Month old Ibo flowering
« on: June 05, 2016, 07:44:13 PM »

So here is my ibo that is around 9 months old from seed sown around September. Went to check it today and noticed some flower buds :)

I've read mixed results about ibo being self fertile but hope that is true. Regardless due to being so small and young the buds/fruits will likely fall before maturity.

Ibo was treated with a weak GA3 solution around 2 months back most likely causing the early flower. There are two sets of 3 flower buds one on each side of the plant.

Awesome! I think we have a member who has gotten seeds from one single plant, so a good case for them being self fertile.

I think they're supposed to be self fertile, but don't produce seeds until they're a couple years old. I know mine have flowered a few times but have yet to bare any fruit.

In this thread Toxicodendron said his were 5 or 6 years old before they fruited.

Would like to know what are the growing conditions at your location?

I'm quite sure that the premature flowering is due to the GA3 treatment it got. Was misted with a 50 ppm solution along with some other plants to promote quicker growth.

I put it in a fairly deep plastic pot which probably equates to almost 3 gallon size in very quick draining soil. I tend to water once a week or two and have Rh of 40-60% and has always been in very bright shade. I also tend to use a low N fertilizer with all my plants usually a 1-3-4 ratio.

Great stuff!!!

Yes, the round fruit variety is self fertile for sure. I imagine the long fruit is as well, but don't have the personal experience with that variety.
