EASY Air layering (M. hostillis//tenuiflora and B.caapi)
« on: June 12, 2023, 08:59:12 PM »

Can be done on most plants and  the end result is a exact replica of the plant taken off and  months or years ahead of something that would have been grown from seed.
Here's a link that got me started.
I've been using it  with great success on Mimosa and Caapi
Give it a try ....
*Added another pic today
Here I got 2 clones off of one branch with this technique

An even lazier tek would be placing directly into the soil and just keeping it moist (NOT WET)
Growers here in Brazil just place directly into the moist soil and keep it in the shade. Humidity places a big factor.

Little off topic but...
I'm in a colder drier region so I got the Tucunacá caapi which does better and mine has survived lows near 2C without issues but very slow growth since in winter here.

If you do lots of air layering, you will figure out that zip ties are not the best idea. Clipping them off during removal can damage the root ball, string or oversized bags works best. I left a good example in the Psychotria viridis air layering walk through posted some years ago.
