Hello dear friends, I'm in possession of a number of dried fly agaric (A muscaria) caps and am wondering of the possibility of cultivating mycelium from the spores presumably present in the gills. Has anyone here had success growing any mushroom species from dried fruits?

Your best bet would be to swab the gills and try to clean it up on agar. Do you have any cultivation experience? If it contains viable spores you could pretty easily innoc' a few plates and clean them up via transfers to get a good culture going.

Far as I know A.muscaria is a rather difficult one to cultivate
Forms a symbiosis with pinetree roots...
Maybe getting some mycelium going into a LC and spraying round the roots of  some pines may get you some fruits but I somehow doubt it
Easier looking for them in established areas at the right times

thanks! I was thinking of putting a section of gill on agar, swabbing sounds like a better idea. I've done a bit of cultivation with other species including a bit of work on agar. Never actually had to deal with any contamination in my cultures before but I think I understand the principles. I'll try this and make another post if I have any luck.
I'm aware the species doesn't usually fruit except in the wild, I was hoping to get a culture of mycelium growing so I can see what happens when it's introduced to an appropriate tree in captivity. More for science than for collecting mushrooms.

- crumble inner-flesh of a fly agaric stem into juice..
- wait 3 days, and watch the magic fleece growing..
- best to drink before bed time for vivid dreams.
(effects not very noticeable until you are asleep)
- add fresh grape juice to the living cup...
and wait three more days for infinite refills.

keeping an eye on this thread. this is something i have in mind for later down the road. not necessarily from dried material, but cultivation in general.
i have not seen much success yet, but one day i will do a tonne of experiments to see what i can figure out.

I read somewhere that how they do truffles is something like this:
Prepare a solution of spores mixed in water
Take seedlings of desired tree that is associated with fungal species
Dip roots of plant //innoculate in spore water and plant out

Wait many years...
 I believe cultivated truffles are now a big thing and were once thought to be impossible to grow

I think just taking spore prints&mixing in water and going through forests spraying//pouring spore water around roots under mulch layers may well give results
