HELP! Very droopy Psychotria
« on: September 08, 2020, 03:17:34 PM »

My psychotria viridis plant have been very droopy since I got it. It’s in a half coco coir, half perlite with some sulphur powder added to Lower the pH a bit. It’s in a shady spot and only gets about 3 hours of sunlight towards the end of the day. It’s usually high 70Fs low 80Fs during the day and gets to the low 60Fs mid 50Fs at night. I usually give a heavy watering every couple of days. What can I do to fix the droopiness? Thanks in advance!

I haven’t gotten test strips yet, but I think the pH of the soil is probably more on this acidic side because coco coir is pretty basic and the sulphur probably lowered the pH even more. I didn’t add too much sulphur though, so don’t know if it did anything. I have no idea for the pH of my water

IME 50F isn't to cold for psychotria, but it is getting near to coldest you want it to be.
so cococoir, and perlite, and sulfer.. that sounds like a problem, there is no nutrients.
i use plain sandy yard dirt mixed with potting soil, nothing fancy, they grow fantastic.

the drooping might be caused by soil-less mix getting to hot and dry in afternoon sun,
if it can be moved a few hours of morning sun would be preferable over afternoon sun.

I originally had it in potting soil with some extra perlite, but I thought maybe the soil was too fertile so I switched to the coco coir medium. Either way it has been dropping the whole time. I think I am going to try your soil mixture though, definitely will be more nutritious. I’d like to switch to morning sun, but there’s not many places at my house where there’s morning sun and afternoon shade.

It could be. I got it from Sacred Succulents and they said viridis, so that’s really all I’m going off

there is a psychotria ID guide thread somewhere on here.. easiest way is look for small 'spikes' on underside of the leaf along the main middle vein.
