Sodium polyacrylate
« on: September 15, 2013, 06:59:22 PM »

Does anyone here use this as an additive to your potting mix or as the potting media itself?

Suposedly using this as an additive can reduce waterings and be very beneficial for
young seedlings i have some left over from other special projects but seeing as it can
absorb 250-350 times its weight in water i doubt i can just mix a one kilo canister into my potting
mix because id need to add half a ton of water to saturate it lol

If anyone here uses this id greatly appreciate it if you could explain how much to mix in and any
pros/cons you have discovered while using this as an additive for potting mix

I use it once in a while, i bought a bag of a product called "Soil Moist". They have dosage calculators on their site that should give you a good idea of how much to use.

Once I got poly-HEMA, to put under a new grass carpet, it's great to hold water and keep it green.
I guess it would work for our plants, besides it holds hormones and vitamins diluted in the water for a more progressive release.
I still have some, I'll test it eventually.
