You at least had to dope it, hair is protein, theoretically allowing fungi to digest it, if the nutrients in hair werent so unavailable. Other than that you only have what naturally sticks onto the hair: A little fat.

Now if youre looking to dope your compressed pube pellets... why not use something completely different to begin with like rock wool ?

I found an interesting link on the composition of human hair... Upon further research, idk if there would be enough nutrients (sans carotene) in it to favor fungi growth... Only a fraction of the amino acids needed to support life are in human hair. Tryptophan is missing, too, so that may cause some problems as well, assuming that substrate gets contaminated with amino acid making bacteria and/or the desired fungi has functional amino acid operons (e.g. TRYP operon) required to make the amino acids the substrate would be lacking. Of course, one could just add excess amino acids and/or other fungal growth factors to the medium if desired.

Another concern is the presence of large amounts of keratin in human hair (AKA what gives it its structure); the cysteine in keratin contains sulfur, which IDK how it would affect fungi growth. I would like to see if one could somehow denature the keratin in order to release excess amino acids for the fungi cultures to feast on; if one wishes to go this route, would denaturing the carotene and/or adding extra amino acids not included in pubic hair to the substrate work (or could we just mix in a little bit of brown rice or whatever normal people use for growing-out fungi)? I'm most likely never going to try this, but I'd love it if someone else tried it out; i'd be very interested in such results...

Unfortunately, this would require me to shave my pubes. I don't think I'm ready to engage in techniques so advances as this one.

I'd be willing to give it a shot, but I've been pube-less since 2012.

Would coarse upper leg/thigh hair be an acceptable alternative?

Oyster mushrooms could degrade alpha-keratin tho its not easy.

For plants j think they need microorganisms to release the amino acids first which doesn't seem so great to me.

Id use a more biologically stable predigested supplement for my plants haha
