Identification help with posable san pedro realative ?
« on: March 09, 2016, 08:42:12 PM »

I bought a cactus tip cutting and the seller threw in a second cut .
 it was listed as .
"Trichocereus sp. MB01 TIPS! - San Pedro relative "

An unknown Trichocereus species that has proven to be desirable. I've referred to it as Trichocereus sp. MB01. I got my first cutting from the guy who planted the cactuses at Ohlone College.

You are buying one tip cutting about 10" long.

its a spiny cactus with 8 ribs .the seller said he thought it was some sort of hybrid ?

Solaritea opinion?

Quote
Trichocereus sp. MB01 named by the now defunct entheobotanical start-up Magic Botanic. Plant came to them via the man who planted all the cactuses at Ohlone College in Fremont, California. Cuzcoid features but was found in the early 2000's to be a desirable plant.

solar_tea is a member here. Great cacti :)

http://sharetheseeds.me/forum/index.php?action=profile;u=482

and his website:

www.cactusaffinity.com

As for identifying the cactus, it's a clone of MB01. So in my garden I would label it as "T. spp. 'MB01'"

The "T. Spp." because the exact species is not known. Furthermore, it's pretty difficult to see species of Trichocereus in a black and white way. They're normally on a spectrum of sorts. So for this, I'd put it in the "peruvianus" spectrum.

Cuzcoid means it shows some characteristics of T. cuzcoensis. Cuzcoensis is often considered a subset of the peruvianus spectrum.

Bridesiod = shows bridgesii traits
Peruvianoid = shows Peruvianus traits
Pachanoid = shows pachanoi traits

I think happyconcacti and Chicsa covered it pretty well. I don't have too much to add.

I've been growing this plant since around 2001. An interesting feature is that this plant doesn't seem to grow taller than about 6-7 feet. This is in my own garden and in pictures I've seen of the plant my cutting came from. The grower I got it from didn't tell me any name for it - it was a long time ago but I think he said he didn't know the names of any of his cactuses.

This winter my big MB01 plant fell over leaving me with several broken columns. So a lot of cuttings have been sent around in the last month or two. Anyone seeing this who buys one of the center cuts that are on eBay now, mention this site and I'll add in a free second cut for you also. (Please note free second cuts will be roughly the same length but skinnier. They were grown at the edge of my garden that the sprinklers mostly missed.)

well  I potted up the tip cut and the center cut .
 I did not water as it was winter .
 Its time for them to go outside soon .. I am guessing they should have decent roots soon .
The center cut has a tiny pup just starting to emerge .

 The two Trichocereus sp. MB01 cuts I got from solaritea have rooted well.
the center cut has a fast growing pup about the size of alarge egg  so far .  it has tripled in size the last few weeks
