New gardener from WI!
« on: December 12, 2015, 11:11:45 PM »

Hello all, I am completely new to gardening and am eager to learn. I love organic veggies and herbs so it only makes sense to start growing! I am taking a class this winter and hope to use this site as a resource. Hope to expand my knowledge and make some friends along the way! :)

My primary plant interests are:
-Hawaiian baby woodrose
-Mimosa hostillis
-Diviner's sage(salvia)
-San pedro cacti
-Heavenly Blue morning glory
-Kava
-Wormwood
-Kratom

If anyone has experience with these plants especially, I'd love to chat! When my time has come I can't wait to trade, although I don't currently have any seeds/plants I have Kefir grains I'd be happy to share.

I also would love to grow avocados, carrots, lemons, etc. in the future.

Note: this is my dream list, I understand that I will have to start slow with one or two species and work my way up :)

Welcome mimosaman! You have come to the right place for sure ;D Some of the pants on your list will be quite challenging in your climate unless you have a good greenhouse. It's gonna be all but impossible to get seeds out of morning glories or HBWR, but you should get plenty of flowers from the morning glories. I suspect kava may be very difficult just to keep alive. Salvia is doable indoors. I would start with cacti since they just hibernate in winter and should be the easiest.

Welcome to STS. Hope that you enjoy your class this winter. Good luck with whatever you grow. Feels great to grow things and feels even better to keep them growing. Best regards mj.

Welcome to STS!

I suspect you'll be able to get started with some of those plants soon.

Don't worry about not having trade materials. There's a lot of sharing here...just pay it forward in a season or so when you're harvesting your own seeds or when someone sends more than you know what to do with. We do like to keep it to viable seeds and cuttings, so rather than offer something non-viable, just jump in on giveaways for now.

Peace,
Frog

Thanks again for the positive vibes and advice everyone. Sounds like a cactus is a foolproof(ish) way to get started!
