Call for Photos for the upcoming issue of Dragibus
« on: September 23, 2015, 09:55:35 PM »

Hello fellow plant nerds.  I wasnt sure where to put this, but I have an article in the upcoming issue of Dragibus that I would like to have some photos for.  There are quite a bit of species mentioned and I wont need all of them,  but a few from each family would be awesome.  Pictures of flowers, full plants and/or identifying features are all welcome.  I would prefer that you email or pm me hi-res copies of the photos.  You will get photo credit and I will send you a few copies of the issue if I use you images.

Aiozaceae -
Sceletium spp
Carpanthea pomeridiana
Delosperma floribunda
Delosperma lydenbergense
Mesembryanthemum crinoflorum
Titanopsis calcarea
Titanopsis hugo-schlecteri

Apocynaceae -
Tabernanthe spp
Tabernaemontana spp
Amsonia spp
Apocynum cannabiunum
Vincus roseus

Asteraceae -
Lactuca virosa

Cannabaceae -
Humulus lupulus

Carophyllaceae -
Silene spp

Convolvulceae -
Ipomoea spp
Turbina corymbosa
Calonyction aculeatum
Convolvulus spp
Merremia sibirica

Labiatea/Lamiacea -
Salvia spp
Leonitis nepatifolia
Leonurus artemesia
Nepeta spp
Scutellaria spp

It will be a two part article, but these are the species mentioned in the first part.
Thanks

I took maaany photos of Humulus today but too much to upload and I dont know which photos will suit. It wasn't easy to get a beautiful shot but many that show the natural habitat and plant, mind its a climbing wine.

Few examples. Just turn your head:

I found this one, insanely aromatic. I asked around and elderly in the area say they remember hops neing cultivated in the area some time ago. I do not know where the males come from then.

However I made sure I take the umbells to show around and to extract the seeds since I promised some people seeds. They will ship as soon as the hops dies back to the rhizome, because me and another member made bad experience with shipping rooted cuttings (here for me they work very well). So I plan to ship rhizomes with the seeds :)

You can see how the umbel is constructed (cut one in half) how they attach to the vine and how the seeds sit in each leaf of the umbel.

Lactuca virosa is all done flowering now. First pic.

However I have close cousins still flowering,
Lactuca serriola
Cichorium intybus

Don't know if that helps. I'll look out for more.

Even tho it looks like you are served already I wanted to supply another one of hops, just because the young growth is kinda photogenic, even if it lacks the most recorgnizable features, and the rhizomes behaviour becomes evident in this picture.

This is a very you g rhizome and the first growth the rhizome produces by itself as last year it was the other way round and the rhizome was produced by a cutting I took. It can take a few years before the plant actually flowers.
A tad more light would have resulted in compacter growth, not much tho, its a vine usually starting its season in the shade of bushes to be occupied.
