I was eating an ice-cream, and this idea just popped in my head. Ice-cream wooden sticks!
We can write the species names on one end, and put the other end inside the soil.
There's also the physician's variation of these sticks which are broader but more expensive because they're "Medical", sterile and blah blah...

I will save the sticks whenever I eat an ice-cream from now on.

Or stral a doctors, better size. They get used in bandages andto get a look down the throat so dont try at a psychologist he'll just try to treat your cleptomania !

You could also use plastic forks, spoons and knives, and those are available in just about every fast food joint around!

What kind of marker did you use for writing on them?
The letters look like you've burned them down into the wood.

or the shirt collar stiffeners from plastic, altho I like the ice cream or spatula idea, its natural.

A stick with a writing surface shaved off with a hatchet, or some such, would also work.
