Hello from germany
« on: September 29, 2014, 11:40:11 AM »

Green greetings!
I have been told about your site by one of the members here, and I'm happy I checked it out.
I'm growing plants since some years, I have been focussing mainly on cacti the last few years, but am now swinging back to more leavy plants again. I have some tropic and subtropic pet plants in the house, and I'm researching the (for me) exotic flora of temperate asia, america and oceania to find cold hardy crops that might grow outdoors at my place.
I love the philosophy you made the motto of this site - share the seeds. I have done this many years, and got back far more than I could have dreamed. I'm happy to say hello to fellow generous plant hearding souls and looking forward to meet you.
Yours mäize

Guten tag!

Desmanthus illinoensis, may be of some interest in cold hardy regions.  I will likely have seeds next year but there are tons of seedians with them now so don't be bashful.

I loved living in Germany, most Germans have some gardening space and almost every office (at least the German civilians working on US bases) has a twenty foot long Philodendron living peacefully under the florescents.

Have fun and enjoy,
Ian

Thank you all for the welcome! I will probably need a few days to fill out my sharing list, in the moment I have some Acacia seeds spare that might interest some people here.
MadPlanter, glad to see you, too. Thanks for inviting me.

Guten tag Ion! Yes, Desmanthus is something I have to try again at one point. I failed with them last time, the spot I planted it was not ideal, but I think with better soil and more sun its well worth.
Philodendron is very wide spread in office buildings indeed. I found my Philodendron, Monstera and two Aloe in random office builldings.

Desmanthus seems to always die around this time of year here. Thought I'd killed the first two I grew the year before last but the very bottom of the trunks looked alive so I left them to sit all winter. Sure enough in spring they came back to life! I think it must be just what they do as its happening again this year.
