Thats a nice little cacti garden you got there. Why don't you cut that etiolated part and root it?

Why don't you cut that etiolated part and root it?

You mean on the large one?  That's a great idea. 

Should I cut just before the etoliation starts and bury all the etoliation during planting?

Or should I maybe remove the 6" etoliated "neck" to plant separately than the head, and see if it pups? 

I'll make the cut(s) now and probably plant next season; 4 months off.


Here's a couple of my little two headed one.  I'm not sure if he is all bridgesii or some Pedro mix or what; but he has four ribs on his lager pup.

That's what I would do. Then I would BAP the etiolated part and the bottom already-rooted part.

I wouldn't cut the smaller one. And with the big one, you could cut it, but that little part is going to grow way slower and get even more etiolated if you try to plant the small part by itself, but then the bigger one would look better (it would pup at the top or bottom)  You don't need to add BAP. Cactus pup on their own when you cut the growing tip.

How do you mean?

Take a pereskiopsis and cut off the top. Run a sterile knife alone the edges and sharpen it slightly. When you're done it should look like a dull crayon.
Then take the top of the cacti and cut a small hole on the ring that goes around the center. Push the pere into the hole and tape it on. The two will fuse after 1-2 weeks and the cacti will grow faster. After you are sure they have fused you can take the tape off.

HERE is my grafting guide. I'm not sure if you can see it yet, but that will show you how to do grafts. It's an essential part of cacti cultivation imo.

Impale grafts are defiantly the way to go imo. Better success rate.

Impale grafts and then grafts onto columnar cactus with mature scions have always been very successful for me.
