The dead one seems to had rot, in an unusual high spot. The other one seems fine but not perfect. White mold in general is nothing to worry about but you could treat it. I think that either the ambient humidity is too high or the soil is soggy. On the long run you won't keep them in high humidity air so maybe you could start venting a bit more and more as time goes.

BTW: Usually humidity alone does not cause mold but stagnant humid air. So venting could address it in two ways.

Regarding the specific compost question: It's not always easy to tell apart nutrient excess and deficiency but to me it more looks like the later. Less organic stuff in your soil might improve drainage tho.
