Friend bought this plant. Thinks its L williamsi var caepsiota. Can any one confirm?

I believe there's a good chance you guessed right. L. williamsii var caespitosa.
Although some characteristics in the second pic reminds me of L. diffusa.
But I'm no expert and haven't had the opportunity to add any Lophophora to my come collection...so I'd wait for more responses...which might take a while since I've noticed a lot of STS members don't use the website any longer... I've been told most members have moved conversations over to Facebook.

Hope I was some help but I'm guessing I just muddied the waters even more.

There's lots of us still here, make no mistake about that, just maybe not as much public posting as we used to do.

That said, what you got there looks like it could be wiliamsii and it certainly is caespitose. But boy is it odd looking. I've never seen one pup quite like that before.
