failed L williamsii graft
« on: June 12, 2016, 07:39:24 PM »

I have a question ive been wondering about and can not find a solid answer. My question is what would happen if you tried to graft l williamsii but it failed. Could you take the button in question, let a scab form for two or so weeka and attempt to propagate roots from it like you can many other types of cacti? Thank you.

Yes you can attempt that however depending on the size of the button it will likely dry out before rooting.

An alternative is reattempting the graft. You recut both the scion and stock a few mm back and reattatch.

What is the best way to secure the graft? Tape? Glue?

Depends on the grafting stock you are using... on pereskiopsis I use cling wrap and a clip to hold it down tight... on larger stock I tie down with thick string sometimes adding cotton on top of the scion to not damage too much.

You can also use superglue (gel is best) on the outside edge only not on the actual grafting union.
