Pitchers and Sundews
« on: March 20, 2016, 02:32:44 PM »

Still no uploading pics?

I ordered sundews and pitcher plant (Sarracenia) seeds last year. After four or so months in the refrigerator for stratification I planted them on top of some sorghum moss and soaks emotionally really well. After a long period of impatience I just got my fist sprout from the pitcher plants. I have read a good deal to get this far. However, I wanted to ask the professional community here at STS if they had any pointers for growing these difficult plants.

When do I start feeding, how much, no nitrogen?

Dormant period, photo requirements?

Any advice would help.

For the Sarracenia: the first year or two you can grow the seedlings constantly under grow lights - no dormancy.
I've used a orchid fertilizer, 1/3 of a teaspoon per 1.5 or 2L of water as a foliar spray. Apparently slow-release fertilizer pellets placed into the soil is better if you really want to fertilize, but isn't necessary at all.
