I think you should always remove them from the berry and clean them. With the berry I would expect the risk of mold being higher.
I agree 100% on that. While I've never had the pleasure of sprouting novos, I've found that removing as much organic material from whatever seed you are attempting to germinate, as well as using rockwool, works well for preventing mold related issues. In my experience, trying to germinate anything in a medium that could become moldy most likely will become moldy. Clean seeds don't generally mold, and I've never seen moldy rockwool. Not sure if all brands of rockwool are the same, but I've learned not to handle the cubes too much while they are dry, wear gloves unless you are cool with having rockwool fibers stuck in your fingers much like fiberglass, and remove your contact lenses if you wear them. My first rockwool experience will never be forgotten lol...Learned a good bit about handling the stuff that I wish I had known about beforehand
