There's so many factors that can cause such issues. Be careful with any manures from animals that eat grasses or any store bought composts with manures or straw/hay in it. There's a new type of broad leaf herbicides that are now being mass implemented on straw and hay fields. They are very persistent compounds that if mixed into your gardens may ruin all broadleaf plants for up to 5 years before they break down. I've had this happen myself as well as many other gardeners I know. Fortunately I only put the composted cow manure in pots and not into my in ground gardens. Ruined all peppers and tomatoes I had at the time. Many names for the stuff. One common name is Grazon. The classification of these chemicals are aminopyrallides(might be spelled wrong). It's no joke your playing roulette using manures or hay/straw these days. Otherwise I would recommend these materials as good organic amendments or mulches. Now unless you know for sure the source is clean then don't use these materials anymore.

Not saying that's the issue with your plant but it opened the opportunity for me to warn others of this newish issue.

Now in now way have I attempted growing a nectarine, but growth like that makes me wonder a few things.

1- PH levels
2- soil to hot or a slow release fertilizer

But again I grow sticky bushes.

I think more info is needed, ph, medium, temps etc.
