The only time I have seen acacia cuts survive it was a root cutting and it took ages.
A pencil sized root was exposed on one side of the tree, and sliced deeply length ways, then reburied shallowly, maybe 1cm deep. Kept well watered too.
It caused the root to shoot from the damaged spot, then the root was tied off from the mother plant with a tight piece of fencing wire. As it shot out it and grew it ring barked/constricted/cut itself off and was then dug up and repotted around the front of the school. Teacher did it in Agriculture class, just to see if it would work. Think it was a Sydney golden wattle, Acacia longifolia but it was a long time ago and I wasn't that interested way back then...
Would love to hear any other ways, as I have a few I would love to replicate!
