germination of Acacia Simplex
« on: July 01, 2013, 03:08:07 AM »

Here are some pictures of acacia simplex seeds.
On the web you can read many ways to do it, mine is very simple:
You make scarification (2 or 3) on the seeds, in the middle each side.
You put it in the water 3 days; the seeds will increase volume by 3 or even 4 and will start to germinate.
Then you put it in wet cotton for 3 days more, once you have a small root, you can put it in earth root down.

Good information to know, what has been your germination rate using this method?

oh, almost 100%, I took 5 seeds an I loose one but, on that one, scarifications were too deep so I knew from the beginning that one was lost

Thank you for the nice pictures, knky :)

The method you describe will work well for many species of the hard-coated Acacia seeds, so it's good to see it illustrated.

Does one need to pour hot water on the seeds, in order to simulate a fire, before germination?

Or is hot water not needed?

No , I just put some warm water in a glass, change it twice or three time. Outside temperature approx 20°C, 17° during the night and that's all!
