It's actually not that hard to cultivate ergot on wheat. Wheat seeds are very cheap (I just bought 2 kinds; Egyptian and hard red winter) for like 3$ for each pack of 200-300 seeds. Ergot grows wild almost everywhere iirc. I found a crap ton growing in a field one day.

Growing ergot on wheat  of course it does but if you want to grow it then do so in stainless tanks with a simple medium and constant sterile aeration (check valve to athmosphere of course). Of course you would want to gather your starter culture in the field
