Arrival
« on: June 26, 2014, 03:08:03 AM »

Hello everyone,

I've had a few people recommend this place to me lately so I figure it's time I make it a regular check-in while I'm busy not working.

I've had an interest in growing plant since high school (so about 20 years), but the interest comes and goes. Cactuses have been what have lasted for me since they survive when I venture off into other interests. I've mostly focused on trichocereus and echinopsis cactuses but lately I've been venturing into other columnar cacti.

I'm getting more interested in raising cactuses by seed now and have enough that are mature enough to flower to start creating some neat hybrids. At the moment I've got an interest in creating some tall columnar trichocereus with few short spines, colored flowers, and a few other characteristics. A long term project for sure

I'm looking forward to meeting everyone.

Sucks, but AU-OS trade isn't cost effective or reliable anymore. Aussie trade encouraged, especially for cactus, dragonfruit, and colour fruited columns.

Welcome solaritea! Your long-term hybrid project and plans sound exciting - you can't cultivate plants without cultivating patience ;) Growing cactus from seed is an incredible journey and I'm sure you'll find it extremely rewarding. I'm glad you chose to join us.

Thanks everyone. Very soon I'll be able to join all official like by giving away a bunch of seeds. I've just got to get around to dividing them up. Stay tuned to the giveaways section.

Pro tip - if you're buying something online and it gives a size, go ahead and pull out a ruler so you can better picture that size. 1" square baggies seemed plenty big enough but they're going to be a pain to fill up!
