Title: Strawberry runner from crown? Or is this normal growth
Post by: modern on January 03, 2022, 10:36:14 PM
First year growing strawberries from seed and after researching more I have spaced the seedlings more even though still pretty close to each other according to research I should have 3 plants per planter but I have around 10.

I have noticed my first flower blooming and decided to just leave it instead of removing it to produce better next year. Hard to see it on 3rd photo

My question is I’ve noticed some new growth from the crown which don’t seem to be seedlings but also runners come from long stems no? Wondering if this is normal crown growth or not. Found in the first photo

Looks pretty normal to me
They die back sometimes then resprout a head//crown
As you mentioned a runner will have a long stem with a new little plant on the end_pin the new runner down with a piece of wire or a stone into a little pot filled with some potting soil while it's growing and once rooted you can snip off and start a new bed or give away
