Title: How long should I wait before giving up hope on my P. viridis seeds?
Post by: spacedumpster on August 07, 2020, 01:40:45 AM
I have read that the germ period is exceptionally long, and the rate is exceptionally poor. Seeds were harvested from berries kept in cold storage. I am at +50 days and there are no signs of life in my pots. Tried doing some in a paper towel, which quickly turned into a mold farm. Should I abandon hope and wait for a kind soul to share some cuttings? I just want to share my home with a chacruna plant or two or twenty!

In my experience I have seen it take 6+ months for them to germinate. Most often though it seems even with fresh seeds they just don't do anything. I've had better results letting berries fall from my plants in other nearby pots and then all of a sudden one day there's a bunch popping up from whatever leaf litter etc was on the soil surface. Intentionally unintentionally planted seeds seem to do better than any I've done purposefully.

Very interesting! Perhaps I'll grab another round of berries, place them on top, or press lightly into some soil, and just see what happens.

ime

fresh berries sprout in shorter than 8 weeks-

after that you may get one or two off sprouts
