Title: Neolithic shade barrier
Post by: Auxin on April 29, 2019, 01:39:49 AM
Vine clones that don't like full sun were planted today. To give them an easier start I wove some shade cloth, stone age style.
Sticks were stuck in the ground in a crescent to follow the days sun. Branches from overgrown goji bushes were then woven into the sticks. Weedy grasses were then woven into the goji.
I arranged this to about 75% shade. Over time some goji leaves will dry and crumble, slowly reducing the shade. Then when they are ready I will thin out the grass to reduce it more.

As an aside, the bolting plants in the row behind them are siberian kale. Flower buds and young flowering tops of siberian kale are very tasty for a raw brassica, dont yank out last years plants yet if you can help it.
