This is the beginning of a long list, as I don't know what the proper names of any native Acacia are.....
I know you can eat the seeds and resins of some from doing a bit of trial and error, but that's about it.
Its gonna take a while to get the flowers, seeds, pods and leaves all in one spot, but I better start somewhere.
I will add more pictures as the seasons change.
Here is my first subject.
My best guesses are Acacia penninervis or Acacia falcata but I could be very wrong...
What are your thoughts?
Email me if you have any useful suggestions about traditional or potential uses, propagation or if you just want some seeds, as I should have plenty available.
Locals here generally regard them as pest species and the owner of my place in particular said I should cut them all out for firewood as he will eventually anyway.
Ironbark and gums are better value as timber and "those bloody wattles are just a pest", apparently...

Here is another one.
The seeds of this guy looks like the A.Mangium I bought from India a while back.
Whats your best guesses?
As you can see in the pictures, the stem is really rough, the last years growth is pretty smooth and the new growth is green/red and a distinctive nobbled appearance.
Oh yeah the second picture has a dried flower in my hand. There is a slight possibility that that flower was of a neighbouring plant.
I missed the flowering , but did find a carpet of those dried flower centers under it, so I am 80% they came from that same clump of plants.
Not much salvageable seed on those ones but there are of others around the same type, that I will be check again soon.
Will post here when/if seed is available.
The council is gonna wipe these guys out as they are doing road works there, but they are really common in this area.
Was told today "That's just common Black wattle"
Plenty of seed now if you want any, but would still love an ID...

This fella lives in town near our old place.
There is a stump that got graded when they redid the drainage ditch, and along the root this fella is sending up suckers up all along the length.
Cant see anymore nearby, but its mostly cleared cattle land there now.
Never really noticed how pretty it was when it was a large tree, but the little reshot suckers look really cool.
I reckon pruned it would look at home in any garden.
Even if it isn't particularly useful I am going to collect some seeds in about a fortnight I guess, as they are just starting to brown a little.
UPDATE, this one is apparently Velvet Leaf" or "Wyberba Wattle" or Acacia pubifolia and is considered VULNERABLE in NSW and ENDANGERED in QLD!
That explains why I hadn't seen it around.
If any one wants seeds of this apparently quite rare native let me know.
Local landcare mob says they got 100% strike rate with the hot water soak germination method, and some had roots on after a 48hr soak.
No idea about traditional or other uses in general yet but any data would be appreciated.

Here is another big beauty.
The farmer who owns them has a huge patch half in his dam/creek, and is not really happy about it.
4meters from root to tip.
Flowered a couple months ago so will be back to get seed pictures soon.
Might have left it too late, but Im hoping not.
Should be heaps of dropped seed regardless.
Well I went out there today, got some pictures and convinced the owner to hold off on cutting them down till I can harvest some seeds.
I and was told its the "Golden Acacia" the Australian emblem...
In that case its Acacia pycnantha?
Doesn't look quite right to me. What do you guys reckons?
UPDATE, this one is Acacia fibriata or the "Brisbane wattle" has an amazing flowering covering nearly the whole tree, is commercially planted and hybridized in a few countries outside OZ for the cut flower trade and apparently is high in various phenethylamines.
Heap of seeds here if anyone wants them.

Here is "Prickly Acacia" apparently....
What is the real name though?
Looks like a much nastier version of sensitive mimosa, knee high, small leaves, and beans about 4-7cm long containing 7-10 beans/seeds.
Heaps of it all through a local cattle paddock and the farmer loved the idea of me trying to find a use for it.
Possibly Vachellia/Acacia/Mimosa farnesiana

Just found the one patch of these guys, up on really rocky crappy soil.
Will take more pictures as the seasons change.

This guys flowers are not like the traditional wattle but I think is an interesting plant nonetheless.
Sort of like a pea not a puffball like a normal wattle.
Could be acacia, maybe not, but its got such cool textured bark and pretty flowers I would love an ID!

Got heaps of these seedling smallish sort of bean pods here at the moment.
Corky bark and a sensitive leaf that closes up when touched.
