Title: [ID] Morning glory?
Post by: New Wisdom on August 29, 2013, 01:34:57 AM
I have this vine growing in my front yard next to all of my cacti. I think it might be morning glory. It hasn't flowered yet, but it has the heart shaped leaves.

Can anyone help me ID this?

I do not believe its morning glory. The leaves are to curled like wild ginger, and not really in a linear fashion like a vine.

Flowers would be helpful for id

Morning glory leafs are more flat and have more rounded edges. I do not think those are morning glories. They *might* be though, so don't quote me on that. ;)

Morning glories look like this;

It is a vine for sure, it crawls everywhere on my porch.  But the leaves don't look like my other morning glory for sure.  I guess we'll see when it flowers.

it has a similar leaf shape, that's for sure.
but the serrated leaf edge, pattern of the leaf veins, and overall appearance of its texture lead me to suspect it is probably not.

but then there are a lot of morning glories, with lots of different leaf shapes, so you can't know for sure either way until it blooms.

also there are bush morning glory which are not as vine-like as typical morning glories so you never know..

Looks like a kumara or sweet potato to me.
Does it have a tuberous root by any chance?
Just a wild guess mind you.... :D
