Title: Hello Yopo!
Post by: SoulGrower on April 07, 2016, 08:26:17 PM
So, I found this guy on CL with some bamboo I've been wanting to try out....

In his backyard, he had two 25-30 ft tall Anadenantheras.  Full of seed pods!  So, holy crap.. I guess these guys will do just fine in central florida!

Interesting to learn to that this species is quickly stunted by restricting the tap root.  When I mentioned to him how  slow mine are growing.. he affirmed that they will grow very quickly if put in the ground.

Beautiful trees too.. at first I thought it was a silky floss bc the trunk had the serrated teeth, tho not as prominant.  But as I glanced up I quickly realized it was not a silky floss :-)

I will have to ask him how old they are.  We had a bad freeze (for us) about 8 years ago.  Be interesting to find out how low of temps these guys have seen.

Did he (or you) mention the possibility of starting a Yopo pod giveaway?  :D

Oh Heck yeah buddy!  I def told him about STS  ;D  He would def fit right in and has been growing alot of interesting plants for some time now.

And even if he's not interested in joining, I'm sure he'd be cool if a collected a bunch of seeds to send out if there's any interest from the community.. I know they've been relatively abundant in the past

I would love a fresh pod!

I have heard that there is a species of Anandenanthera that someone has kept alive in the ground in England or something like that, Trout was talking about it... It was a specie I had never heard of...

Fuzzballs are good! They will eventually give way to pods.

But you knew that already...  ;D
