So, my little D.Lepto petals closing up and I do not know why, could it be because of Nyctinasty ?
-
Is it timed with the cycle of day and night? I've never grown it to witness what you describe, but it's possible. How long have the flowers been open? Could just be that the plant's done with that stage in the reproduction cycle and is losing flowers to move toward seed production??? A picture would help!

This morning they were open alot wider, now they are closing up.

They look green and healthy. Sometimes, the leaves fold up before they shoot up their true leaves. Just watch them over the next few days, them turning yellow is a bad sign.
I think TBM thought you meant the flower the plant produces was closing up, which brought confusion.
Have fun with your babies!

Those are called cotyledons when they are the first leaves to pop up before the first 'true leaves' form. So yes, that's how I thought you meant flowers :P

Yeah, they do that. Open during the day and close at night. They seem to do much better in a potting mix with at least some natural soil. I assume because of nitrogen fixing bacteria. Don't use miracle grow garbage. That stuff is devoid of any beneficial organisms.

Thank you guys for the info, I was a little nervous as to what was going on, My mimosa.T's are doing the same thing.
-
Yes, mimosas do that too. It's pretty cool - they sleep. They will do that for their entire lives. :-)
And please, please don't ever hesitate to ask if you have plant issues. That's what this community is for, and we all learn by growing and asking questions.
And I am terribly excited those d.l. seeds are germinating! That's great to see.
-
Yes and I thank you very much for them FP!, The first batch that I tried to germinate did not come to life, the second one did though! And the mimosa certainly do the same thing as well I just did'nt know what was happening :P, I think its awesome.
-
I love that they curl up when they get sleepy...
-
Yep, Its awesome :D. They're sleeping right now, And when they are awake they display their majestic leaves, I love them.

now I have the opposite problem with one of the desmanth's I noticed that this orange mold or fungus was growing on the surface of my nursery trays, so I carefully scraped it off and replaced it with fresh soil. All the mimosas and desmanth's closed up during the process like expected, and then reopened up before the night was out, So when I turned the light off, All the little guys closed up shop and went to sleep except for my tallest desmanth, He will not close his leaves all the way and Im pretty worried about him, could this be some form of shock?

I have had them freeze up like that after being transplanted & ect, but they seem to recover just fine!

If they don't make it and you need more leptolobus seeds let me know. I'll have to check, but pretty sure I have a bunch of them in my stash. They are literally weeds around here.
