Mahalo to all. I have plenty of acacia seeds and access to lots of exotic plants that I am willing to trade for things like cacti seeds, poppy, coca, or other useful herbs.

Welcome to STS :)

What's shipping plants to Hawaii entail? Is it like shipping international?

How about cacti cuttings?

It will be almost impossible for me to receive live plants or cuttings of any kind unless you own a nursery with the proper licensing to do so. For now I  will have to stick with trading for seeds.

Hawaii is very strict about importing plants and animals.

Even if it's mailed from within the US? What about exporting?

I think the same goes for exporting, even in the US.

I think the same goes for exporting, even in the US.

I hear this many times and I can not know for sure as I do not work in that area, or have very much experience. But I doubt they even look at what goes out. When it goes out its not their responsibility anymore so they could just not care or even be happy that it is out, no matter what. The only reason to check what goes out would be so they can see if there is more, if its anything of concern and only if the senders adress is correctly given.

I doubt that they check what goes out in most states. I know one where they do, as they once caught a friend sending currency out, but china is very authoritarian :)

Export from the islands is no problem if you are not running a business. If you are running a business (nursery etc) the export laws can be more strict than the import laws. Import of live plants is a very big hassle, business or not.

Hello and welcome to STS!!! I think this is why some of us who can should look into obtaining a nursery liscence. We used to have a liscence here, but we let it lapse many years ago. I'm hoping to renew and once I do, I could proxy for people to you ;)
