G'day mate welcome to STS. I've a good mate in Perth but's a long way from me in Calgary. Have to ask if you have been up to Mount Buffalo National Park and seen the Wattle there, a beautiful plant (Acacia Phlebophylla). All the best regards mj.

No MJ I can't say that I have seen much of Victoria , I live in the goldfields of WA , there are heaps of acuminata, coolguardiensis, Kalgoorliensis type of wattles around here where I am they can be quite spectacular when they are in bloom

What are those Wattle like for sent when they flower? I have seen pictures of the flowering trees covered in blossoms. Do they make much nectar for the insects like bees? Best regards mj.
I love the colour combination of the green and orange /red of the Phlebophylla a fine looking plant grows best I am told with the natural earth fungi and bacteria. Said to be a very pure source of DMT. Protected I believe.

are those ariel roots or devolved thorns in that pic?
either way, a really cool plant that many here will appropriately honor

Good question Ian I wondered that myself and I guessed spines simply because many Acacia do have spines but these don't look too pointy do they? You may be right about them being aerial roots or they may be new stem shoots? I don't see any spines on the other pictures of this most hansom plant. Perhaps one of our members from Oz who grow these can tell us? Best regards mj.

to be honest I haven't really noticed much of a scent from the acacia flowers around here but the acuminatas smell like raspberry jam when the wood has been freshly cut!
the bees , butterflies and moths all seem to love the nectar they produce and the honey I've collected from the wilds out here tastes pretty awesome too

Hi shallen,
my membership is only a few days old, good to see you over here too :-)
As for that phlebophylla image, they are seed pods forming ;-) not roots or thorns
Cheers!

thanks: but what is a glabrous Peduncle? Best regards mj.
Peduncle :a stalk that bears the flowers or fruit
glabrous: smooth, free from hair or down
glabrous Peduncle: smooth stalk with flowers (or fruit) on it
