Is it possible to but the tip of a pereskiopsis shoot, place the Trich seed on the wet wound, and then cover it with something (not yet sure what can be used), to let the seed germinate there and grow?

I don't think so, but then again I'm not an expert. I think it would be better to germinate them normally, then graft them onto your pereskopsis.

Sounds to me like that might work but success rates would most likley be extremely low and i dont think it would be worth the effort to grow hundreds of pereskiopsis to germinate seeds when one could germinate hundreds or even thousands in sand or soil with little effort

It wouldn't act as a graft most likely and would probably just end up dying because it wont have anywhere to put it's root.

Is the point of grafting a P with a T to increase the growth rate? i would try to slow the Trich cacti growth rate personally.

Too me it sounds like it would then try to push its roots into the stock. But mind, roots arent designed for that kind of environment, your not make a graft but much more a parasite. Mind again, a parasite is highly specialised.
I dont think it works, as far as I understand it, in a graft the "venes" of the plant are cut and merged again, if you want of two different plants. So yeah the plant has to be cut through before grafting, in your example it will want to produce roots as it was designed to do.

There are many reasons to graft, but that is usually the main one. Why would you want to slow the growth rate? Trich seedlings are pretty slow as is.

Hi Mr. Seeds: please don't discuss alkaloid content. Thanks, hcc I'm going to set to seed three different kinds of trichoreus (i think i spelled it right, forgive me if i didn't) but i was hoping to learn of ways to naturally slow it's rate of growth (perhaps selecting from slower growing seeds?)

To slow growth just dont fertilize and water less.
Last year I watered my trichs daily in summer and fertilized heavily every third watering. They grew like zucchini ;D
On the other extreme I have a couple T. cuzcos I havent watered in 4 years and an uyupampensis I havent watered in 18 months. They dont grow much ;) but are still alive.

Some species are highly prone to root rot or cant handle very strong fertilizer, in some cases it purportedly improves cold hardiness, in others it increases propensity toward flowering. Evil Genius, of Germany, reports that Harrisia jusbertii is effective at improving chances and frequency of flowering when used as a grafting stock. H. jusbertii is also known as Eriocereus jusbertii (Eeer-Eee-Oh-Serious Jus-Bear-Tee-Eye), I quite enjoy that name personally. Just pay attention to your tongue when you say the name on drugs and you'll understand why... anyway...

What are those other reasons?
1) save a cactus with root rot
2) expand the quantity of a selected clone or plant
3) genetic mutations tend to show themselves more quickly
4) often times more rapid growth
5) rootstocks can be more durable and handle more "abuse" than if the scion is on own roots
6) it's fun
7) increase flowering
8) decrease time to flowering
I'm sure there are more.

HCC is exactly right. There are a million reasons one can graft. Also when a plant is mutated to the point where it wont survive normally people will graft. Variegates and what not. The main one though is that it's fun! Thanks for that HCC, hehe.
