Title: What to grow in Zone 6A?

I hate researching stuff to grow cause when I find the info it's tons of reading then when I'm done I'm still not sure
if I read it all right and I'm still stuck :-\
What I'm trying to say is can you guys do the work for me ;D, JK, but really I'm hoping
you guys can inform me on plants, mushrooms, bushes, trees, etc, that can grow or maybe survive
zone 6A. Hey maybe we can do a thread on each zone :).

Right off hand mandrake, henbane, belladonna, desmanthus, passionflower, pedicularis, and Russian olive.

Maaaany varieties of poppies, especially somniferum and maybe setigerum will like your climate and both are ethnobotanicals :D
Mullein will du, so will Leonurus, Datura.

Will update when so ething cones to my mind its basically myclimate if I get the usda thing right :)

It may help if you were to give some indication of the type of plants you wanted.
That way you wont get a list of hallucinogens when what you want is sedatives, or stimulants, or cold remedies, something for gonorrhea, or perhaps birth control.

PFAF (http://www.pfaf.org/) lists USDA zone for most of its 7000+ species, and theyre usually accurate or at least close.

Well,  as a fellow 6a resident, I have grown many things over the last 15 years. Here are the most common:
 
Herbs- Rosemary, Sage, Parsley, Thyme, Spearmint, Peppermint, Dill, Chives, Basil, Cilantro, Lavender
Fruit- Apples, Cantaloupes, Strawberries, Paw-Paws
Vegetables- Cucumbers, Lettuce, Beets, Carrots, Tomatos, Bell Peppers, Jalapenos, various gourds, Broccoli
Flowers-Day Lillies, Black-Eyed Susans, Morning Glories, Sunflowers
Ornamental- Coleus and Japanese Maples

Leaf blight took the Basil last year, but everything else turned out just fine!

More relevant to your interests, Phalaris grass grows well.  BubbleCat and Frog Pajamas are both correct; everything they mentioned is inconspicuous and grows very well.  My MGs take us the whole back fence.  Also, any dung or wood-loving mushroom does very well.  And more exotic or questionable species are better off indoors.
