Looking great, just remember that pereskiopsis prefers to have room for their roots to breathe. They will root fine where the are but they will be craving more room soon after rooting

You're welcome :)

Do you have them in dry soil?

The preskiopsis you can water.

Yeah they are currently in dry soil, was going to wait a couple weeks before lightly watering

Depending on the conditions and/or if roots are forming, you may not need to water for a while.

Typically it's best to have them in bone-dry soil until roots are showing.

One thing I learned too late was;

Don't be afraid to pull the cuttings from the soil and check.  The roots on cuttings that large will be thick as yarn and really more hearty than you expect.

I made the mistake of waiting several weeks into the growing season and even tho I had them in near dark they started growing and I ended up with some serious etiolation.  You are probably looking at the opposite problem and should be worried about rot, regardless don't be afraid to gently pull them up and check.  I did just little baby pulls thinking I would 'feel' the roots growing and it didn't work.

Ian Morris is spot on, don't be afraid to check for roots.

Often times when I check for roots, I dump the whole pot of soil out. Why? Because I've pulled on a cutting and the roots got ripped off.

Can you take a picture of it?  Also, was it rooted when you planted it?

i cant take a picture until tomorrow but will as soon as i can. It wasn't rooted or watered when planted. My thought was that i planted it before it fully calloused maybe..

I highly doubt it was anything caused by you:

I've had trouble with some of the scions/grafting stock from that round of grafting. Though it hasn't happened to any of the other SS02 scions. The Helen and Khronos scions seemed to fare the worst. I think the some of the grafting stock sat too long before I used it. I'm not 100% sure though.

Is the grafting stock mushy? Has it developed a transparency when you hold it up to a light? Is any part of the SS02 scion still green and not shriveled?

I've had scions get rot on 1/2 of it but after a good amount of time, they still pushed out pups from the green side of the scion. But if the grafting stock is having trouble too, it's probably a goner.

Next Spring I'd be happy to make another graft or two for you.  :)

I did notice that I was able to save a couple scions once the stock started rotting, and the one I left on the stock also rotted once the stock was pretty far gone. I'm not sure how they're going to fare long-term, but that scion looks big enough that maybe it would ultimately root and pup if you pop it off, let it dry well, and try to root it on it's side?

The stock just looks thirsty to me, but the scion looks like a goner. I would just continue to root it if I were you and once it roots start watering. Who knows, maybe the scion will grow after it gets roots.  Looks dead, but looks can be deceiving.
