Title: A few things on seed collecting
Post by: Mrgreenthumm on July 29, 2014, 07:10:18 PM
Thanks to all for the warm welcome here at STS!
My work often takes me on the back roads of Tx.
I have made it a habit of collecting seeds from wild
specimens. Here's what I came up with this year.

A good stock of A. Gregii( iffy on this on but for sure Acacia)
Both Caesalpinia gilliesii and Caesalpinia pulcherrima
Albizia julibrissin and Albizia lebbeck
Mimosa nuttallii,(sensitive briar, cool plant!)
Mimosa biuncifera Benth.(Tx catclaw mimosa)
Desmanthus Illinoensis, Desmanthus velutinus,
And my prize find of Desmanthus leptolobus!

I'd like to know if anyone enjoys this wild collecting past time.
Feel free to post what treasures you have found!

Damn straight I wild collect good species I see for seed or food. I stop for coconuts, elderberry, loquat, blackberries, and a host of other stuff. I love to hear others do this as well.

WHOA!!!!

Nice Finds Mrgreenthumm! I'd love to trade some seeds with you in the future:

Especially these:
Mimosa nuttallii
Desmanthus leptolobus

There are lots of Mimosa biuncifera Benth around my parts and DANG those are some mean plants. They really latch on and sink their "claws" deep. OUCH!!!!

Welcome to STS!!!

Absolutely! But the mission of the day is taking
and adding pics of my local ethno-natives ;D
God I love this hobby!
