Title: Trich Rooting Help

First time attempting to root a cutting, but I'm not sure about the look of the cut end. 3 of 4 I got were scarred over, but the fourth is a little gross looking- soft and nearly black. Should I leave it alone to scar, cut it again, go ahead and plant, or what? Thanks.

I'd cut it off about an inch down then let it callus back up.

I'd also do that.

I find that a strong fan directly pointed at the cut end will dry it more quickly.

Yep, I would cut it as well. Then dust the new cut with sulfur to prevent any further infections.

I agree with nobody. Don't cut it until you have sulfur. In the past when i've tried cutting plants with infection/mold and not put any sulfur on the wound the infection usually just continued on.  I would also put a layer of rooting powder on it too. Let it chill for a while until roots start popping out and then plant it.

Where do you get your sulfur powder, NW? I've looked a few places and haven't seen it anywhere. I prefer to buy in person, but will order online if necessary. Thanks!

I realize you were asking someone else, but I've gotten sublimed sulfur powder (aka "Flowers of sulfur") at my local pharmacy, and also at WalMart type big-box-store.

The following are kinds that I've used:

It sound crazy but  I use cinnamon powder in cactus infections.. with good results!

Get this tip from one old and wise men that works with cactus all is life... you should try it ;)

I've tried it and it works for prevention, but once you have an infection it's never worked for me. The only thing that worked at that point for me has been sulfur.
