Scale on Cactus?
« on: January 28, 2016, 12:49:11 PM »

Hi,

I got a new cactus, and there is something going on here. It's a relatively rare species, so hopefully you all can help me fix it.  :)

The plant itself is not as yellow as it appears in these pics. But it is covered in tiny whiteish flecks.

Ideas?

Peace,
Frog

cochineal scale. Bugs.  :( High power sprayer should remove them. Warm water and a sponge and some time.

my preferred method is an old toothbrush which is great for spiny areoles and everything else

i've tried neem oil, all sorts of spray on insecticides, systemics, yada yada; the tooth brush is now my preferred method

Spray with "morning urine + tobacco tea" for bugs.

Might sound weird, but I tried it on T.pachanoi when its surface and soil was plagued with dust sized white/red moving dots [similar to those damn bugs which drop off sparrow feathers, easily visible when the sparrow walks on white paper]

It worked for me like magic.
Just sprayed once, and the entire family were gone the next day.
