Keeping plants watered while on holiday
« on: November 16, 2015, 04:25:19 AM »

I'll be leaving for a week around Christmas and no one will be home. A friend watched them in the past but my collection has gotten a lot larger and more complex. He might be out of town as well. If I can't find anyone to care for them, how can I prepare my plants to water themselves or use less water? I can lower temperatures and  the light cycle is low already. Any self watering systems that I could improvise?

Well that's handy. My plants are indoors though and many of them quite small, some seedlings too.

Also consider wick systems and / or irrigation mats. A wick in the bottom of a pot that reaches into water can be adjusted in length to provide a certain degree of moisture.
