Should I take seed out of berry before sowing or should I sow the seed in the berry?

Sow with the seed still in the berry.

But that's a novo question. This is a T. undulata thread...

Why spagnum? I bought this for germinating Sarraceniaceae now I'm glad I did. I use the same company's cactus mix. Great stuff.

I assume for moisture retention... THAT is high quality (canadian spaghnum) I have converted to using a mix of Black Gold's products, great stuff from what ive seen. Cheaper then FF and about the same quality imo

Sphagnum and peat are not the same thing. You can have peat made from sphagnum, and it can be used as a component of potting soil.

For seed germination what you want is actual sphagnum moss. It comes dried out so you have to wet it and then squeeze out the excess like a sponge. It has natural fungus and bacterial inhibiting properties and so is great for germinating sensitive tropical seeds or those that have a long germination time.

Any gardening supply store should have it, and most big box stores carry it too. My local L***s has it all the time.

About 2 months ago I found out I don't know how to properly use Spaghnum Moss as I would just make the seeds rot and mold like crazy. I replanted the seeds into my common 50/50 perlite/soil mix. I then covered closed the lid and left the seeds outside for 2 months. When I went to check if there were and sprouts the container was close to steaming but there was still 2-3 T.undulata seedlings seemingly unfazed by the hot temps.

Out of 10 seeds I had 6 that germinated and 4 survived. The pic is 3 that are outside, the last one will be moved out when the second set of true leaves sprout.
