Hi ev1
I was given the 1st picture succulent a year ago and the 2nd a month ago, all I know is the 2nd 1 is indigenous to SA and the other I have no clue on, all help is welcome.

I'm probably completely off but...the top one looks similar to hoodia and the bottom one's flower looks Solanaceae family-ish. Sorry I can't help more.
-
I'd say that top one looks like a hoodia or a euphorbia. The only way to tell for sure is when it flowers. Hoodia have very distinctive flowers.
-
The spines look greener than the pictures of hoodia I found. Probably because its young.
-
Well hoodia is a genus. Lots of different species in the hoodia genera.
-
How tall is it Da?
-
The first one is a Stapelia. I'm not familiar with the other one.
-
I think that second one is an edible, not that that helps you much.
I bought something the other day that is identical from the local markets, but the label fell off and I am trying to ID it now too!
Pretty pinkish flower it gets and it tastes like any other succulent "pig face" just with a little more tang.
Apparently high in the omega's and all the other good stuff, and that's why I got it + easy to propagate.
If it is the same (and it certainly looks it) I will have an answer in a month when I see the seller again, but if you find out before, make sure you let me know!!!
Mrs is very pissed "I" lost the label. (Although I don't quite know how I got that job, ::) And I certainly don't remember volunteering....)

I've been wanting stapelia for a while. They're great for grafting.
-
Hey NW
I was just asking Sunshine a few hours ago about using as a graft stock, I still said wat ever is grafted on 2 it would grow really fast, I can send u a piece of it when I send the swob? I am not sure if it will make the trip?
Regards, Da-1

If you let it dry out for a few days before sending it then it will. You should wait a week or so before sending it. I have a legal situation i'm dealing with right now that I need to figure out. I'll let you know after friday whatsup.
-
Hey NW
Sorry I forgot about the situation u are in, plz let me know how it go's and I will cut off the big pup when u say the word, let it dry and send your parcel.

Where is your sense of adventure?
Probably a wise decision though.
-
Hey fairdinkumseeds
I like trying new things but when it comes to eating new things I would rather get confirmation from some 1 with more experience, as I have been picking in the wild so I know the risks, but if u can confirm this is edible then I will give it a try :) thanks for reading.

Aptenia Cordifolia is the succulent with pink flowers in picture SDC10348.jpg and SDC10347.jpg I would say.
Sorry about the delay with responding. Took me while to track the dude down again.
Great in a salad or chucked in at the end of a stirfry.
