Trying to find a way to get rid of algae in a container water garden with a blue lotus. Any idea?

Copper sulfate will work, but needs to be carefully applied in the correct dose.

I might be recalling things incorrectly but I seem to remember something about using hay straw to clarify pond water.

 Gold fish  ? ?

Sometimes instead of trying to maintain a artificial eco-system, it's simpler to add on to a existing one   / Lotus should do well in much of north america's climates.

Holy crap no. Golfish are just pigs with fins. If you get some you'll want to feed them and then they poop in the water and make more algae. Then you'll feel the need to get a pond filter and then things just get more complicated from there...

Add a large airstone to aerate the water or use a pump to circulate the water or a reserve tank. The 'simplest' way would be adding H2O2 often however not really 'economical' I would think.
