Title: Hello Everybody
Post by: atax on November 27, 2013, 11:46:12 AM
Hello people

I reside at the mediterranean island of Crete, I love gardening and want to share my little knowledge and seeds/plants

Currently I grow herbs ( basil, mint, dittany, thyme, lavender, savory, sage, rosemary etc ), taken mostly from wild plants
I grow my own vegetables every summer, and have a collection of old local varieties seeds

I have orange, lemon, fig, locust, pomegranate trees and of course Olive trees

I also have a collection of cacti (trichocereus pachanoi, peruvianus, bridgesii, lophophoras, opuntias) which I intend to grow in size
and variety

The flora of the island is filled with medicinal herbs and plants which I would love to intersperse throughout the globe

So that's it, see ya all in the Garden  :D

G'day atax!
Pleased to meet you and looking forward to trading with you in the future.
So many culinary delights come from your end of the earth!

I'm sure you will love it here, especially if you have an interest in cacti.
Some real knowledge here it seems.

Awesome Atax! What type of medical plants grow in crete? :)

Well there are many, just to name few: Cretan dittany (Origanum dictamnus), Ironwort (Sideritis),
Cistus creticus (Labdanum), Marjoram, sage (Salvia fruticosa), Tilia europaea, etc.
Here's a list (big one) of some plants http://www.nhmc.uoc.gr/en/museum/photo-archive/selection/images/groups/8964 (http://www.nhmc.uoc.gr/en/museum/photo-archive/selection/images/groups/8964)

Where I live there are also many acacias, which I will have to identify some day
