I bought these as Trichocereus peruvianus about a year ago. They had some kind of bugs when I got them , that caused a lot over damage so I had to cut the tops off both of them. I have been finding a lot of plants are sold as other plants, so I wanted to check.

Looks like it has some cuzcoensis genes in it, but most cacti are muts. So it could just be some kind of hybrid. Definitely has some peru genes though. Nice plant!!

There is a lot of wild peruvianus varieties and they look really different from each other, these look pretty similar to the ones I got. I can't see the characteristic spine butts on them so if there is any cuzcoensis pollution it seems to be very small.
Matucana peruvianus is supposed to be purebreed but, its sure is close to macrogonus, I think yours look very much like proper peruvianus.
The first is supposed to be a peruvianus from wild collected seeds, its too young to get the dark bluegreen color, but you see the oily glint on young tissue characteristic of peruvianus.
The other is a classic cuscoensis, an under appreciated grafting stock.

I wonder what makes cuzcoensis such a predominate clone on the market, like PC pachanoi.

Probably because they are convenient to propagate, another contributing factor is that a LOT of vendors are pretty useless at identifying plants. The cusco seeds I got was sold as peruvianus...

It has the swollen spine bases and bleached spines like a cuzco. So, I would guess that it is one.

The same vendor sell me PC pachanoi, Cuzco as Peruvi and Jourdaniana as Lw caespitosae.... :(
Don't complain about that. Today I know that the seller doesn't know how to identify. But it's a little sad for frustrated expectation.
