Hello.
« on: September 01, 2013, 01:58:48 PM »

Hi all,
I am gardener and plant enthusiast, I am always interested in learning about (and growing) a new plant.
I live in USDA zone 5 in the north eastern USA, i have super sandy soil which i have been amending with plenty of compost, mulch and waste wood (hugelkultur).

Looking forward to sharing seeds with a new community!

Welcome to STS infiniteohms!

Thanks for the contribution to the plant gallery. It's very appreciated.  :)

So I see you're into growing ice plants.  I was thinking of starting some Delosperma bosseranum and Sceletium tortuosum soon. Do you have any tips that you can share?

Hey, Infiniteohms:

I'm also in the NE USA, but since I'm coastal, my location is categorized as Zone 7.  As others have said, this is a forum populated with some really fine, knowledgeable people.  Probably the most civilized forum you'll ever be a part of.

Look forward to your posts.

Not a electrician, just started using that name online years ago because it has a nice ring (and can be represented in symbols in a neat way,  ∞Ω)

I'm glad to hear other people are growing up here in the frozen northland, I have some extra seeds of Atropa caucasica, which is a lot like Atropa belladonna (Deadly Nightshade), but it is zone 5 hardy... if you are interested just let me know and i will send some along.

Delosperma bosseranum is super easy to start from seed and if you grow it in weak soil / tiny pot it forms a amazing caudex, i just surface sow seeds and keep them somewhat damp until they have 2 leaves, then let them dry out between waterings. Just let me know if you want seeds or cuttings.

Sceletium is bit more finicky, but not bad, i grow it from cuttings, i have some rooting now if you are interested. I tend to water it only once in a while so it keeps its natural form.
