Ive heard conflicting reports.
I want to start an entheogenic collection, and I'm not sure if this applies.
Its adorable, i may get it anyway.
-
Oh, they have two!
Same label. Here's the other. They look different.. The first may just be swollen from water.
-
Trichocereus grandiflorus is not an entheogenic cactus.
-
Well, I decided it was adorable.
It was also $3, so i could try out a soil out made with stuff i already had.. I'd rather lose $3, than 6 months time lost on seeds.
Soil mix is-
2 parts oil dri
1 part composted wood bark
1 heaping tablespoon aquarium sand (out of an active tank)
1 part river pebbles
I actually think this mix would do better for cuttings... I'll make up a better one if there are any problems.
I also despined it. I have cats... >.>

Shulgin found something interesting in the flowers once but could not find it again.
Believe it is mentioned in Tihkal.
The mystery keeps me growing it but no part of the cactus is entheogenic like new wisdom said

Nice plant! De-spining cacti is pretty much inviting your cats to mess them up, and encourages infection on those spots that got chopped off. If I were you I wouldn't do it in the future or if you must don't actually cut into the skin, just take a nail clipper to them and get the sharp points off. I have hundreds of cacti in my house and a couple cats. My kitty tried to bite one once when he was young and learned his lesson. Now he just gracefully chills with them, but doesn't touch them. If you plan on getting more then you may as well let your cats find out not to touch them on their own.

Okay.
If i decide to despine next time, I'll probably get some of those surgical scissors with a curved blade. Theyre actually pretty cheap as 'cuticle trimmers'.
I'm probably moving at the end of January, so won't have to trim after that.
-
Your cats will most likely be fine without chopping the spines. They're smart animals. Unless it's got some mental disorder it most likely will touch it once and then realize not to touch it.

My cat lives in harmony with all my spiny things :)

Cats love cactuses. :)
