Help with identity of seed
« on: June 11, 2013, 08:23:20 AM »

I am new to this seed. My camera is not the greatest, but I am wondering what it is for sure. It seems to match the Mimosa Hostilis seeds, but I am trying to clarify with somebody more likely to know.

They do look close to Mimosa Tenuiflora/Hostilis, but seeds of other species in the Mimosa or Desmanthus genera have little differences.

If it's Mimosa Tenuiflora, germination should be very easy, and once you have a seedling with the first pair of real leaves (the ones unfolding after the cotyledons) identification will be easier.

Nick a couple of them carefully in a side, and put them between two moist paper towels. Once the radicle emerges from the seed (1-2 days), you can move them to a little container with soil mix, half an inch deep. In a week or week and a half you'll have a closer ID.

Keep us posted :)

I need to get my grow station set up. I want to have my soil and area ready. I do live in the dessert, so it can be very dry. My aquatic animals keep oarts of my house humid though, so it should work. The sund peeks right through ready to go. Any soil type recommendations?

I'm pretty sure that they are MH seeds. No way to tell for sure till you plant them.  I ordered them from two different vendors, and they both looked completely different.  I'll attach a picture.

Here is the method I used to germinate them. http://sharetheseeds.me/forum/index.php?topic=251.msg377#msg377

So, I have 2 very different type seeds both labelled "Mimosa verrucosa", do M. verrucosa seeds look identical to M. hostilis seeds, or do they look like this:
