Salvia divinorum seeds
« on: June 10, 2014, 05:14:38 PM »

A friend of mine sent me some Salvia divinorum seeds, I could't believe it. Anyone have seen it? Are the seeds positive id? What about germination of those, I'll try the in vitro methodwith one or two.

In my experience, I have never seen or heard of any Salvia divinorum actually producing seeds (only rumors of how hard it is to get it to flower and produce viable seeds), nor have I seen what their seeds actually look like. They do look similar to other seeds of the Salvia family though

I suppose the only way to know is to wait for them to germinate 8)

This guy (supposedly) has had reported success growing from seed, and making seed; he says its rare that they seed and are often not viable.

Definitely worth looking into, in my opinion.

I don't recommend buying from Sage Wisdom if one lives in a Salvia restrictive location.
They won't ship to those places, though may bill/charge those who order from restrictive states; I got my money back eventually, but I had to contact them to get $ back (couple years ago).

Those certainly look like pictures of S. Divinorum seeds that I've seen. The brown flowers (which I assume the seeds were originally in) also look like pretty classic flowers.

For reference, here's a picture of a salvia in bloom, you can see that the flowers look very similar.

This all-purpose growers guide has a section on growing from seeds, although they stress that the seeds are generally not viable.

Good luck!
Please let us know how it goes.

Perhaps you could try soaking a few of the seeds in a GA3 solution to see if that improves the germination rate? I'd say maybe start at 500 PPM?

GA3 is not a bad idea, but 500ppm is a bit much. Salvia seeds are extremely sensitive to the stuff.

I understand they are very difficult to germinate.  Most growers cultivate only by cuttings.  I read some information here - http://azarius.net/smartshop/salvia_divinorum/salvia_cutting/ - that says only two strains are 'officially' known to exist.  I like the challenge!

Did you plant these yet? I'm very anxious to hear how it went.  A new salvia clone would be amazing.

I'm closing a trade with my friend, soon I'll have the chance to germinate those.

I remember a vendor selling salvseed and I could manage to dig them up again. Altho I didnt find a corresponding rule in STS rules I would rather wait and see what mods say before I put a link in here. Bit it seems they are commercially available already and also the vendor claims they are from strains that have not degenerated due to excessive propagation - therefore I conclude it must be a third strain, and also be able to reproduce and creating variants.
It appears nobody has given permission ... So contumacious :O
So here you go: http://bcseeds.com/salvia-seeds-salvia-divinorum-seeds-p-158.html

And they have erythroxylum ... 凸^-^凸 im going nuts ... On the other hand they appear shady to me, not only because of the "log in to..." System but especially because of some claims regarding alkalaoid levels in some of their other offers wich are way off everything else. And what some things would "usually" cost... Last time someone started to make a deal that way I inquired for alibabas lantern and his flying capret :D
