Catha Edulis Cuttings
« on: May 19, 2016, 10:13:03 AM »

I may add my experience on rooting Catha Edulis cuttings.

End off august i moved them indoors and took some cuttings because they took some cold, and i wanted to save the plant.
I took peatpots, filled with coir.
Placed on a south-side window and kept slightly humid in a rootingbox.

After one month, the first new leafs sprouted

After 6 month this is what they looked like

The roots passed threw the peatpots when i repotted.
I simply dug them with the pots in ordinary soil.
i didnt used any rooting hormone or fungicid.
Success Rate nearly 100%  8)

Hope someone may find this post helpfull.

Love

PS: Wanted to add this post to an older topic, but the board told me opening a new topic would be a better option.  :o

I was just wondering if you took any measurements during this time such as pH, temp, etc. to help us reproduce your success. I got some Catha edulis cuttings last year and they took many months to root, and I lost a few too. The survivors are growing well now.

I did not take any measurements, but the cuttings where placed in the kitchen so an average temp of 23C was given.
As far for the medium used, the coir, i can buy here in pressed in bricks.
As it is a natural product i suppose the ph etc is allways same.
Sorry if i can not deliver more detailled.

Greetings

I got 3 cuttings last week and i placed under similar conditions.

I do not know, if the leaves i put will bring any success. I just didnt want to threw them away. And i like experimenting.

BTW: I do not own a PH-meter.

Put two cuttings in small pots of coco coir. Does it matter how many nodes are buried and have contact with water? How long till I know they are rooted? Leaves are starting to break off easily. any tips?

The idea of propagating Khat from leaf cuttings interests me very much! Please keep us posted about that possibility--there's little to no knowledge in the literature regarding propagating from leaf cuttings; i'd love to see that changed!

Beautiful! I'd love to get my hands on some Catha Edulis someday. The original cuttings looked a little rough, but they definitely took off!

I would like to hear about  the progress of the leaf cuttings myself. I have a couple khat trees so if anyone wants some cuttings I have a thread in the trading forum

I was sent a rooted plant with a gnarly off branch which I cut off and stuck in the pot next to the mother plant I took it off of. No special care was taken and if anything I neglected it. No hormones were used. After 4+ months it has sprouted new leafs! I think it's worth noting that it was an older woody cutting.
